The Kaufmann Family (Jakob & Peggy Kaufmann and their 2 children – Kirsten & Richard) moved to Kuruman from Plettenberg Bay in 1986 to purchase and operate the Savoy Hotel in Kuruman, after operating it successfully for a number of years they subsequently sold it.
In 1991, the family bought the Farm Cadwallader, and birthed the vision of a farm lodge. The vision grew and it started small, with only 5 chalets, the reception building as a central venue and a pool, a few day visitor campsites and ablution facilities. The official opening was in 1994 and have since added rooms and facilities as finances allowed.
To this date there are have 32 chalets & rondavels, a fully licensed a la carte restaurant, conferencing facilities and private / public camping facilities. Red Sands Country Lodge offers 16 self-catering, comfortable and spacious airconditioned rooms with queen beds, en-suite bathroom with shower.
We regard ourselves as a bush lodge on a working farm which includes primarily game antelope. But Nguni cattle are also present. The farm is not a hunting farm but the owner occasionally culls as necessary.
In 2016, the son, Richard Kaufmann officially took over the business from his father and is operating it to date…
We trust that our guests will have a pleasant stay with us and any feedback is regarded as positive to help improve our service to you.
